LUCA DE VIVO NICOLOSO -  Research Analyst Luca's PH.D research focuses on Structural Bio-Inspired Design; he is currently researching ways to apply nature's shapes, patterns, and forms to enhance civil and aerospace structures. He is also considering applying these principles to other fields, such as biomedicine, art, and architecture. Luca plans to use his interdisciplinary background in structural, material, and computer sciences and engineering to improve our understanding of biological structures. He believes that by mimicking nature we will be able to build lighter, stronger, safer, and more sustainable manmade systems.  Luca is also an entrepreneur at heart, and is a firm believer in the power of multidisciplinary teams and their ability to tackle the world’s biggest challenges. He is currently working with a team of young professionals and graduate students from UCSD in the bio-inspired design of an autonomous nutrient supply system (ANSA) for hydroponics. His dream is to one day start a multidisciplinary biomimetic design office that would bring together people from diverse disciplines, ranging from engineering to psychology, to collectively work towards the solutions to our future challenges.
